When I first heard the news that Osama Bin Laddin was killed I couldn't believe it. I went on facebook and saw multiple posts on the issue and my mom called me up stairs to see the news. I went to the tv to see the news and watched as the broadcast showed Obama telling everyone that he was killed and each news station commenting on every thing that obama said. I went online and searched the news. I found out more details of the death on how he was in a mansion instead of a cave. and how he was shot in the head and actually died a week ago and how officials have been doing DNA testing to make sure it was him. When I finally believe this to be true i thought of 9/11. when 9/11 occurred i was in first grade and i didn't know what was going on. My teachers weren't allowed to tell us anything on the subject. When I got home my parents were very upset and my brother also didn't know what was happening. My parents saw the images and video on the news and came home a little early to check on us. They explained to me and my brother that a plane had crashed into a building. Thats all i could understand as a kid and my parents didn't tell me any more. When i read the star tribute article on how Osama was hiding in a mansion i began to wonder why he wasn't in a cave and how no one saw or reported a sighting about him. Osama is over 6 ft tall and people over in the middle east aren't very tall this makes him very noticeable how is it that we didn't do anything till now? True the process for an operation this size will take longer than most but i still think it could have gone faster. when i read that our navy seals killed him i was really happy. I do wonder what is going to happen next. Like if the terrorists will retaliate by bombing more public places. Also I wonder who will replace Osama and if there is someone even higher than him on the terrorist team. what if we have been chasing a lower level official instead of a bigger and badder terrorist. I'm also very concurred with everyone celebrating over killing person even if he was a terrorist hasn't humanity evolved by now. This is like a blast from the past where killing was a sigh of justice, revolution and triumph. But i can rest assured a very powerful and dangerous terrorist is dead.

Maus Vs. Night
I enjoyed reading the book Night much more than Maus. I liked Night more because how the book flowed in chronological order where as Maus kept jumping between present times and flash backs. I also didn't really enjoy the comic book format of Maus. I found it pleasing how Night really gave you a vivid picture of how tormenting and disturbing the holocaust really was in world war 2. Also Night explains where and when they are but in Maus it seemed like it was a lot of flashbacks without much meaning. I would have rather just learned specifically about the Holocaust which is what Night did.
Night is a story of the first hand expirence of a real person. Reading Maus never gave me a really interpritation of what the holocaust was like, the description wasn't vivid enough for me to get a real image of whta life was like in the holocaust. Even though its a comic book which has pictures, it would by descriptive, the pictures didn't really didn't give me a completer underdstanding. Night was first hand and showed me how terrible the Holocaust actually was and what an actual survivor went through.
Lastly, in the future students should just read the book Night. This is because when people read this book they want to know what happens next but in Maus you don't get that urge. This is because it had vivid clear pictures. When people read maus they don't take it seriously because its a comic book and they don't have the urge to read it over Night. I did not really interest me very much because it really just was not very interesting. The author in Night was expressing his anger that he felt towards the Nazis and the difficult life style he had to endure. Maus is just a childrens book that would help little kids figure out what the Holocaust was about and not in depth at all.

Restrepo Blog Assingment
There are many connections between the book Fallen Angels and the movie Restrepo these connections gave me a better understanding of the book Fallen Angels and war itself. Here are some examples.
1. In the movie Restrepo innocent civilians die when the American soldiers bomb the houses. This happens in the book as well the American soldiers kill innocent civilians. I can see first hand the stress and grief it brings to those families. This instance makes me sad.
2. Watching the movie gave me a better understanding of how scared soldiers are in war. In the book soldiers were scared out of their mind for combat and now seeing the movie a can see the expression and faces and how scareed and worried they were.
3. Seeing the movie and how the Americans are trying to make peace with the locals and how hard it can be to reach a compromise. The same thing happens in the book were the soldiers are on a pacification mission and how difficult it is to reach the locals on an agreement.
4. In the book and the movie there is a bond between comrades that cannot be broken. In the movie soldiers watch each others backs and cry for the dead. Same thing happens in the book they all love each other and are willing to die for each other.
5. Also there were fights within the squad in both the movie and the book. The movie made me realize that fighting or wrestling wasnt necessarily because of hated, it was just for fun and to pass the time.
6. In the book, some of the squad mates had pictures or items from home, that they treasured deeply. in the movie some of the men had pictures and you could see how much they missed the people in them everytime they saw them.
7. In the book and the movie there were black and white soldiers. In the book there was some racial problems but in the movie there was no racial problems this shows how an army squad overcomes problems.
8. The death of comrades, affect people in the book and the movie. the biggest similarity in the book and movie is the care and compassion that each solider holds for their comrades.
The movie Restrepo and the novel Fallen Angels it showed many events and effects of war. The main idea of these two war stories is that it showed how bad it was to go to war. In both Fallen Angels and Restrepo the soldiers experience gruesome and violent events that leave not only physical scars but also mental scars. One big one of these is seeing one of you best friends die right in front of you leaves a huge mental scar. Like in Fallen Angels when Brew dies and in Restrepo when Restrepo dies. The soldiers never will be the same after these events. Along with the horror that war brings it also brings people together for survival and teamwork. When you go out into battle you are relaying on the guy beside you to watch your back and her expects the same from you. Soldiers create an unexplainable bond between each other. This is shown in Restrepo when they are hanging out in their hooches like a family. It also shown in Fallen Angels when Pewee and Perry are holding hands going on to the plane.

Siddhartha Blogging Assignment
In the book when Siddhartha is talking to the Buhdda Gotama, the author is showing us that only self enlightenment for ones faith can be found alone and not throught teachings. During this part of the book Siddhartha and Govinda just listened to the Buhdda Gotama's teaching and Siddhartha wishes to speak with Gotama. Siddhartha feels that there is a flaw in the Illustrous ones teachings. siddhartha says " you have learned nothing through teachings and so I think O illustrous one that nobody finds salvation through teachings"(page 33). Siddhartha believes that faith is not taught by others but is self taught. I also believe in my own daily life that it's important to believe in your faith. Such as my faith as a Christian I found it to the right faith. Even though my pastors teach me about the history and practices of the religion but having a first hand experience of the feeling a God cannot be taught. Further on in Siddhathas conversation with Gotama Siddhartha makes the point on how you must find your faith not through teachers but though your own ambition. Siddhartha says " But to leave all doctrines and all teachers and to reach my goal alone or die" (page 34). Siddhartha no longer wishes to seek out teachers and doctrines for salvation but instead find it be himself. This links into my life people cannot tell me what to believe or do. I must do what I feel is the right path for me. Nothing can be taught to me unless I find it to be true. Following my own path is an important step in every persons life. The only thing i believe in is the Truth.

"Be a Man" Blogging assignment
1. Quote:
Lady Macbeth: Unsex me here
and fill me from the crown to the toe top full,
of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood.
Stop up th' access and passage to remorse,
(Act 1, Scene 5, Line 48-51)
Context and paraphrase: Lady Macbeth has gotten a letter from Macbeth stating how he will become king and begins to talk to herself. lady Macbeth wants to become a man and wants her blood thickened because she doesn't want to feel pain.
Interpretation and Explanation: In this passage Shakespear demonstrates the male demeanor by saying men do cruel things but because their blood is so thick they cannot feel pain. Along with feeling no regret for their actions they continue their un-justified actions without awareness.
2. Quote:
Lady Macbeth: That made you break this enterprise to me?
when you durst do it, then you were a man;
And to be more than what you were, you would
Be so much more the man. Nor time nor place
Did then adhere, and yet you would make both.
They have made, themselves, and that their fitness
(Act 1 Scene 7, Lines 55-60)
Context and paraphrase: Lady Macbeth is having a fight with Macbeth because Macbeth doesn't want to kill the king at that moment. Lady Macbeth is taunting Macbeth on how less of a man he is for not keeping his promise on killing the king.
Interpretation and Explanation: In this passage Shakespear demonstrates how keeping ones word or promise is a sign of being a man. When lady Macbeth says "that you break this enterprise to me" means that Macbeth is breaking his promise to Lady Macbeth on killing the king. Shakespear is saying men shouldn't break their promises.
3. Quote:

4. Quote:
Malcom to Macduff:
Context and Paraphrase: When Malcom witnesses Macduffs outburst of loyalty he feels he can trust Macduff. Malcom tells Macduff everything that he had spoke was a lie. He is a good person and only wishes the best for his people. Malcom tells Macduff he is loyal and proud of Scotland and is ready to put the rule back into faithful hands.

3. Quote:
"What man dare, I dare.
Approach thou like the rugged Russian bear,
The armed rhinoceros, or th' Hyrcan tiger;
Take any shape but that, and my firm nerves
Shall never tremble. Or be alive again
And dare me to the desert with thy sword.
If trembling I inhabit then, protest me
The baby of a girl. Hence, horrible shadow!
Unreal mock'ry, hence!"
The armed rhinoceros, or th' Hyrcan tiger;
Take any shape but that, and my firm nerves
Shall never tremble. Or be alive again
And dare me to the desert with thy sword.
If trembling I inhabit then, protest me
The baby of a girl. Hence, horrible shadow!
Unreal mock'ry, hence!"
(Act 3, Scene 4, Lines 121-129)
Context and Paraphrase: Macbeth is confronted with the ghost of Banquo who haunts him at a dinner party. This displeases Macbeth and challenges the ghost by saying no matter what form you take I can beat it. By comparing himself to many formidable foes he believes that he can win.
Interpretation and Explanation: Macbeth believes with fear he can control others. By comparing himself to fearsome creatures he draws the comparison to his own sense of his strength. He says he is a person of bold nature and nerves that cannot be shaken.

4. Quote:
Malcom to Macduff:
Macduff, this noble passion,
Child of integrity, hath from my soul
Wiped the black scruples, reconciled my thoughts
To thy good truth and honor. Devilish Macbeth
By many of these trains hath sought to win me
Into his power, and modest wisdom plucks me
From overcredulous haste. But God above
Deal between thee and me, for even now
I put myself to thy direction and
Unspeak mine own detraction, here abjure
The taints and blames I laid upon myself,
For strangers to my nature. I am yet
Unknown to woman, never was forsworn,
Scarcely have coveted what was mine own,
At no time broke my faith, would not betray
The devil to his fellow, and delight
No less in truth than life. My first false speaking
Was this upon myself. What I am truly,
Is thine and my poor country’s to command.
(act 4, scene 3, lines 133-151)
Context and Paraphrase: When Malcom witnesses Macduffs outburst of loyalty he feels he can trust Macduff. Malcom tells Macduff everything that he had spoke was a lie. He is a good person and only wishes the best for his people. Malcom tells Macduff he is loyal and proud of Scotland and is ready to put the rule back into faithful hands.
Interpretation and Explanation: The way Shakespear has written this quote shows that men are smart and think things through. Malcom test Macduff to see if he is friend or foe. So Malcom says some ill legit facts to flush out Macduffs true intentions. But when Macduff gets angry Malcom realizes he is truly there for the good of the kingdom. So Malcom then tells him the truth about how good he is and how he is ready to take over the kingdom to the rightful ruler.
5. Quote:
Bring it after me.
Context and Paraphrase: Macbeth is preparing for battle and has his servant Seyton brings his armor and follow him. Macbeth rants about not be afraid of death. But rather focuses on moving Birman forest to Dunsinane.
I will not be afraid of death and bane,
Till Birnam Forest come to Dunsinane.
(act 5, scene 3, lines 72-74)
Context and Paraphrase: Macbeth is preparing for battle and has his servant Seyton brings his armor and follow him. Macbeth rants about not be afraid of death. But rather focuses on moving Birman forest to Dunsinane.
Interpretation and Explanation: In this passage Shakespears shows how men are fearless and are willing to do anything to get the job done. Even if the task involves the chance of death real men carry on with the task until completed.

The Odyssey: Analysis Assignment
The Odyssey is an old story of a man finding his way home. The many themes of the book create different and spell binding tales. But the overall theme is that life should be valued. Stories all 7 books share the common theme that life needs to be valued. Book 11 is the book where Odysseus travels to "The land of the dead", in this underworld he find Achilles a former allie of his. Achilles says to Odysseus that he wishes he was a poor beggar on earth alive then king of the under world. "But you, Achilles, there is not a man more blest than you there never has been, never will be one. Time was, when you were alive, we Argives honored you as a God, and now down here, I see, you lorded over the dead in all your power. So grieve no more at dying, Great Achilles. I reassured the ghost, but he broke out, protesting, No winning words about death to me, shining Odysseus! By God I'd rather slave on earth for another man some dirt poor tenant farmer who scrapes to keep alive than rule down here over the breathless dead." (Page 265, lines 554-560). This shows how much certain people value life and that their are certain qualities of living that being king of the underworld cannot fill.
Moving on to book 13 after he returns from the land of the dead. In this book Poseidon says to Zeus "I said my self that Odysseus would suffer long and hard before he made it home." (Page 290, lines 148-149). Life is something that is irreplaceable. Poseidon who wishes pain and suffering onto Odysseus, probably could of stopped Odysseus from going home. Odysseus has been stuck at sea for years and its all because of Poseidon. Being trapped and facing all of the challenges, which Poseidon has put Odysseus through really makes it tough in any man. But because Odysseus is so strong in so many different aspects such as brute strength to his cunning wit, he has managed to stay alive. Also was able to return home because of his strength. Being alive and physically able only helps prove that life to a great gift and should not be taken for granted and that it instead should be cherished.
As Odysseus' journey begins to come to an end, the goddess Athena disguises him as an old homeless beggar. This disguise will allow Odysseus to re-enter kingdom. Odysseus runs into trouble with Melantho a woman who begins to pester him. Odysseus then begins to preach to the woman. Beggar Odysseus says 'I once too lived in a lofty house that men admired: rolling in wealth, I'd often give to a vagabound like myself, whoever he was, whatever need had brought him to my door. And crowds of servants I had, and lots of all it takes to live the life of ease, to make men call you rich. But Zeus ruined it all God's will no doubt. So be ware, women, or one day you may lose it all." (Page 392, lines 82-88). Odysseus Preaches to the men that life is the most valuable thing in their possession and they should help others. By doing these deeds, their gods will give them happiness and wealth. Life is your most precious item and your most generous supplier, do not take life for granted and live everyday in fulfillment and happiness.

(Page 290, lines 148-149).
